Ellis Charles Helge Jr, 56, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away September 24, 2016. Born April 14, 1960, to Ellis C “Bud”, and Joyce C (Smith) Helge, Chuck leaves his wife Katy, daughters Lindsay (Carlos) Zerzan and Erin Helge, step-daughters Emilie (Jerry) Rouse, Caroline (Dougie) Gould, and Anna and Maggie Orians. His mother survives him, as do siblings John (Sarah) Helge, Mary (Neil) Helge, Chrissy (Ron) Szydlowski, and Lynn (Roy) Helge, his niece Emmalyn, nephew Chas, and a grandson, Gerald "Bug" Rouse.
Chuck was born in Wakefield, Michigan; his family moved to Upper Sandusky in 1964. A 1978 Upper Sandusky graduate, he graduated in 1982 from The Ohio State University with a degree in education. He was a supervisor for customer service for the former PayCo company in Dublin, Ohio before joining Simpson Strong-Tie as their Columbus branch customer service manager in 1993.
A firm believer in community service and "paying it forward," Chuck was awarded the first-ever Barc Simpson Community Hero Award in 2015 for his long-time efforts with the Tri-Village Lions Club. Chuck was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and served as deacon in the Broad Street Presbyterian Church in Columbus for several years.
Chuck is fondly remembered by his family, friends and acquaintances for his absolute love of life, his sense of humor and of purpose, and his devotion to friends, family, and his community.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home, 476 South Sandusky Avenue in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
