Velma L. Willett, age 99, of rural Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
She was born on January 4, 1923 in Bucyrus, Ohio, to the late Sylvester and Lola (Shanks) Margquardt, both of whom are deceased. Velma married Donald “Dick” Willett on May 1, 1941 and he passed away on November 26, 1987.
Velma is survived by her daughters, Pat (Jim) Heinlen of Bucyrus, and Sharon (David) Blaser of Springfield. Her grandchildren, Steven Blaser of Springfield, Tennessee, Jill (Blaser) Beard of Ringgold, Georgia, Douglas Heinlen of Bucyrus, Mark Heinlen of Marion, and Kim (Heinlen) Perez of Columbus, along with 12 great-grandchildren, and 11 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a great-grandson Mitchell Harris Beard, a brother Virgil Marquardt, and her friend of many years Robert “Bob” Flohr.
Velma graduated from Bucyrus High School of 1940. After working for 30 years at Timken Roller Bearing Company, she retired in 1982.
In 1957, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Velma was a faithful, charter member of Wayside Chapel in Bucyrus, where she enjoyed serving church dinners, visiting the shut-ins and was an avid supporter of Wayside Christian School and the students. She once shared with her granddaughter, who is a teacher, to “choose a vocation that they love.”
During her retirement years, Velma enjoyed camping and fishing, trips to Amish country, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, all of whom brought her great joy.
Funeral services for Velma Willett will be held at 4:00pm Friday, March 25, 2022 at Wayside Chapel in Bucyrus, with Pastor Jeal Wyler, and Dr. David Blaser officiating. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Friday, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at Wayside Chapel.
