Stanley Walters Obituary

Stanley was the son of Dr. Orville S. Walters, and Geneva Walters, (nee Faley)

He was educated at Greenville College (BA), Asbury Seminary (BD), Princeton Theological Seminary (Th.M) and Yale University (Ph.D)

Stan’s life’s calling was teaching and preaching.  He taught at Greenville College, and Central Michigan University. He served nearly 40 years in Toronto as Old Testament Professor, Knox College, as Senior Minister, Rosedale Presbyterian Church, and Professor Emeritus, Tyndale University.

His pastoral ministry continued as minister of First Presbyterian Church, Bucyrus, and minister of First Presbyterian Church, Fostoria.  Stan was very active in the congregational life of First Presbyterian Church, Upper Sandusky.  He taught the adult Sunday school, and he played piano for the class, as well as during worship.  Stan ran the Alpha course. He taught us much in the hymn sings he led.  He spoke at the Lenten Lunches.  For the Maumee Valley Presbytery, he was a lecturer and assessor for the Commissioned Lay Pastors program.

He is survived by his dearly loved wife, Elizabeth Thomson Walters (nee Wessler) and his step sons, Andrew (Sarah Foster) Thomson. and Kenneth (Allison) Thomson.

He leaves behind his children David (Marja) Walters, and Connie (Peter) Dunwoody, his brother, Richard (Diana) Walters, and sister Margery (George) Browning and his grandchildren, Deirdre, Damaris, Rowan, Aravis, Rose Walters, Michelle Dunwoody, Dorothy and Isla Foster, and Maeve and George Thomson.

Stan will be dearly missed by his wife, his family, friends, former students, and members of his congregations.

And.. he was often spotted walking his handsome Airedale Terriers down S. Sandusky or at the Reservoir.

To the end, he was faithful to his daily Bible study and prayer, and he remained an elegant gentleman, and loving husband.

He died peacefully at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Conklin and the nurses and aides who treated him with skill, respect, and gentle care.
