Rosalie Pahl Obituary

Rosalie D. Pahl, age 83, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at her home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. 

Rose was born on July 30, 1938, to Mary Ann (Hunkele) and Jerome Frey Sr., of Kirby, Ohio. Rose was the twelfth of thirteen children: Agatha (Frey) Thomas, Edwin Frey, Wilfred Frey, Gerald Frey, Norman Frey, Miriam (Frey) Vent, Jerome “Junior” Frey, Herman Frey, Cyril Frey, Frederick Frey, Sr. Mary Noel Frey, and Norbert Frey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David, her son Jerry and her siblings: Aggie, Edwin, Wilfred, Gerald, Norman, Miriam, Junior, Herman, Sr. Mary Noel. She is survived by three brothers; Cyril, Fred, and Norbert. 

Rose graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1956. She married David Norman Pahl on October 12, 1957, at St. Mary’s Church, Kirby, Ohio. They had nine children: Dean (Sue) Pahl, Jerry Pahl, Roger (Nancy) Pahl, Barbara (Bob) Stickel, Chuck (Shawn) Pahl, Norm (Dayna) Pahl, Deanna Pahl, Gina (Mark) Lewis, and Ben (Corey) Pahl. She has 25 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Rose was also an adopted grandma to many others that she took under her wing throughout her life. Rose was unanimously nominated as “Best Mother and Grandmother Ever.” She was often referred to as an “Angel on Earth” by those who knew and loved her. 

Rose was a homemaker and loved living on the family farm surrounded by family and friends. She worked at First Citizens National Bank for seventeen years where she served in several roles including branch supervisor. She also enhanced her skills at MTC College while also taking art classes at OSU. Rose was a devout Catholic and lifelong servant of Christ. She was a member of both St. Mary’s Church in Kirby and Sandusky, Ohio. 

Rose was very gifted and talented artistically, musically, and domestically. She was a great cook, gardener, and seamstress. Rose sewed beautiful baptism, first communion, and bridesmaids' gowns as well as baby blankets that are still cherished today. She offered her talents sewing costumes for the school and church plays and would mend anything for anyone who asked. She enjoyed painting country, wildlife, and farm scenes along with murals on corn-husking wagon bang boards. Additionally, she painted the mural displayed in the culinary building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds. Rose often won top awards for her creations at the Wyandot County Fair. 

Rose endlessly volunteered her God-given talents over the decades as she remained dedicated and actively involved in church and community activities. She generously gave of her time as a CCD teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, 4-H Advisor and Camp Counselor, Eucharistic Minister, and Church Festival Volunteer. She assisted with musical arrangements, played the piano, and frequently organized some of the above programs. She assisted with the design and organization of First Citizens National Bank Parade floats, 4-H Fair floats, and county fair booths. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kirby, Ohio, and will be officiated by Father Conrad Sutter, OFM Conv., and Deacon Kevin Wintersteller. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Mary’s Center. 

The family will be available for visitation at St. Mary’s Center following the luncheon from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice, Open Door or a charity of the donor’s choice in care of Lucas Batton Funeral Home at 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
