Rod J. Van Sickle, age 73, of Fremont, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at his home in Fremont.
Rod was born on May 10, 1950 in Green Springs, Ohio. He married Jeanette Ward on January 26, 1973 and she survives, along with 2 sons and their spouses, Clay and Emily Van Sickle of Los Angeles, California, and Casey Van Sickle and Sam Barton of Toledo.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as a medic in the U.S. Army. He was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts, 3 Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 2 Stars. After his service, Rod became a certified paramedic and also attended The Ohio State University in Marion and became a Registered Nurse. He continued on to work as a paramedic with the city of Fremont for many years, and worked as an RN working the midnight shift with Willard Hospital in their Emergency Room.
Rod enjoyed his membership in the local VFW, and was an accomplished woodworker creating artistic woodcrafts from rocking horses to furniture.
Military honors for Rodney J. Van Sickle will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2023 at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky by the Upper Sandusky Honor Guard. Immediately following the service, a visitation celebrating the life of Rodney will be held until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
