Robert R. Bils, age 95 of Upper Sandusky, and formerly of Harpster, Ohio, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
Robert “Bob”, was born on September 11, 1924 in Harpster, Ohio to Henry O. and Triphonie (Lippens) Bils. He married Mildred E. Jeffery on June 24, 1950 and she passed away on November 28, 1985.
He is survived by his children: Mary Joanne Phillips of Jacksonville, Florida, Jeffrey (Linda) Bils of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, Marjorie Clark of Naples, Florida, Thomas (Joy) Bils of Harpster, Monica (Richard Alford) of Johns Creek, Georgia, Milissa (Pat) Obringer of Tiffin, and Patrick Bils of Dallas, Texas. 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren survive along with a sister Marialyce Haferd of Galion.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and shopping companion Helen Swartz, 3 brothers George, Albert and Joseph Bils, and 2 sisters Marie and Adele, who died in infancy.
He was a 1942 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and went on to serve his country in the US Navy as an electrician’s mate during World War II.
Bob was a 2nd generation farmer having worked his entire life on the family farm.
In the 1960’s, he was very active with the National Farmers Organization in Ohio.
He was a lifelong member of Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, where he volunteered and served the church throughout the years.
Bob will be remembered for his love of farming, his church, politics, euchre, and most of all, his love of his family. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be truly missed by all.
A private graveside service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery with Rev. Conrad Sutter OFM Conv officiating.
Due to the current travel restrictions for family members, a celebration of life memorial mass will be announced at a later date.
