Richard W. Reel

Richard W. Reel, age 76, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away at 6:50 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Richard was born on November 23, 1946, in Little York, Ohio, to Jonathan and Ellen (Sunderland) Reel and they preceded him in death. He was once married to Terry (Nye) Reel and she preceded him in death.

Richard is survived by his children: Brian Nye of Bucyrus, Tracy Nye of Mechanicsburg, Robert “Bob” Nye of Mechanicsburg, Erin “Reel” Griffin of Fayetteville, WV, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Richard is also survived by his siblings: Elizabeth “Fern” Parker, Jonathan Junior Reel, Vicky Lynn Reel, and Jacob Adam Reel, all of Upper Sandusky.

Richard was preceded in death by his daughter Heather “Nye” Zamora, brothers Raymond Lee Ault, Eddie “Dean” Reel, and Charles Allen Reel, and his sister Sharon “Ault” Karg.

Richard enjoyed farming and worked on the farm for John and Dessie Greene from a very early age. And more recently he was a machinist at Buckeye Machine in Forest for 20 years until he retired.

Richard served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for several years.

Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, and spending time at his favorite place – the Upper Sandusky Reservoir. He loved sitting on his rocking chair on his front porch entertaining friends and neighbors.

A memorial service for Richard W. Reel will be held at a later date.
