Richard Abbott Obituary

Richard E. Abbott, age 95, of Brevard, North Carolina, and formerly of Upper Sandusky, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 in Brevard.

Richard was born on November 22, 1926 in Findlay, Ohio, to Francis and June (Sayre) Abbott. He graduated from Findlay High School in 1944. He married Margaret J. Davis on May 22, 1947 in Marion, Ohio, and she survives.

He is also survived by 2 sons, Ronald (Cathy) Abbott of LaRue, Ohio, and Michael (Malou) Abbott of San Angelo, Texas, and 2 daughters, Patricia (Bryan) Higley of Flat Rock, NC, and Nancy (Tom) Howlett of Sweetwater, Texas, along with 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a son David Abbott,() a brother Kenneth, and 2 sisters Helen Noel, and Betty Moffit.

Richard was a veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II. After the service he owned and operated Abbott & Company in Marion, Prospect, and North Baltimore for many years. While he and his family lived in the Marion Pleasant School District, he was a volunteer firefighter in Pleasant Township and a volunteer with the Marion Auxiliary Police Department. He and his wife then opened and managed Indian Mill Campgrounds in Upper Sandusky, OH, and then he retired from Liqui-Box in 1988.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical in Upper Sandusky, the former Smithville United Methodist Church, and when in Florida, Central Christian Church in Mt. Dora. While living in Marion, Ohio, he was a member of Central Christian Church.

Richard was a member of the Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM, McCutchenville Chapter #96 RAM, where he served as the past high priest, Upper Sandusky Council #98, Marion Commandery #36, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Zenobia Shrine in Toledo, Wyandot County Shrine Club, Lake County Shrine Club in Florida, and the Warpole Chapter #366 OES and served as past patron.

Services for Richard E. Abbott will be held at 11:00am Monday, November 28, 2022 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 27, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, with a Masonic Service to be conducted at 3:45pm.
