F. Merrel Lust, age 85, of Marion, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at his home.
Merrel was born on June 11, 1935 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Chester and Leota (Brooks) Lust, both of whom are deceased. He married Ruth Anne Glenn on March 18, 1961 in Fite Memorial Baptist Church in Marion, and she passed away on February 11, 2006.
He is survived by his 2 children: Karen (Eric) Knopp of Versailles, Ohio, and Joel (Jenny) Lust of Morral. 8 grandchildren, Michael (Allie) Wenig, Hannah E. Wenig, Jacob Wenig, Ethan Knopp, and Hannah M. Knopp, Claire Lust, Collin Lust, and Chloe Lust.
Merrel is also survived by his brother Darrel Lust of rural Morral, and a special friend, Elise Steele of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son in law Stuart Wenig.
Merrel was a 1953 graduate of Harpster High School where he graduated as the valedictorian. He received, along with his brother, the American Farmer Degree from FFA. He also was in the US Air National Guard, and he was called into active duty shortly after enlisting.
Merrel and his brother, Darrel, started farming together after graduating from high school. They got their start farming in 1953, and thus began Lust Brothers. They continued the family farming operation for 67 years and it continues today with the 2nd generation of Lust’s.
He was a lifelong member of the Grand Prairie Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee, and on the pulpit committee.
Merrel served on the board of the Marion Federal Land Bank in 1977. He also served on the Ag Credit Board of Directors for 29 years, where he was chairman, and Merrel served on the Ag First Farm Credit Bank Board from 1994 – 2006 as chairman.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and going on big game trips to Wyoming. He enjoyed following all sports, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Public visitations will be held on Wednesday, December 30, from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Grand Prairie Baptist Church, 4893 Marion-Upper Sandusky Rd., Marion, Ohio 43302.
The funeral service for Merrel Lust will be private because of the seating restriction guidelines due to Covid-19. Pastor Bob Hendricks will be officiating with burial taking place at Grand Prairie Cemetery.
