Madonna Meeker Obituary

Madonna E. Meeker, age 79, passed away at 8:35 PM on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at her home in Upper Sandusky.

Madonna was born on December 22, 1943, in Carey, Ohio, to Edmund a. and Emma O. (Keller) Weaver, both of whom are deceased. She married Joseph A. Meeker on July 2, 1966, at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church and he survives.

She is survived by her 3 children, Mike (Tammy) Meeker of Upper Sandusky, Michelle (Brian Rosen) Meeker of San Francisco, California, and Marc (Marcy) Meeker of Lakeland, Tennessee, and 3 grandchildren, Kurtis, Katy and Lauren. Along with her 2 brothers, Marion (Virginia) Weaver of Tiffin, Thomas (Dolly) Weaver of Carey, and 2 sisters, Therese Westphal of Roswell, Georgia, and Regina Brinson of Upper Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers, Edmund Weaver, Jr., and Karl Weaver.

Madonna was a 1961 graduate of Carey High School and went on to The Ohio State University, where she graduated with a bachelors of art degree in Home Economics. She was an active participant in 4H and held the title of Wyandot County Junior Fair Queen. She went on to teach for 25 years, primarily at the Upper Sandusky High School.

She was a member for many years at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, eventually becoming a Eucharistic minister. Before that she was a member at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Carey.

Madonna’s passion in life was that of an educator and teacher.  Her leadership and affiliation with several school and community clubs, specifically 4-H and FHA, helped influence multiple youths throughout her teaching career. After retiring, Madonna enjoyed teaching crocheting at the Wyandot County Council on Aging and created a group of avid crocheters known as the “Happy Hookers”. She was also president of the Senior Club. She was a certified “Master Gardener” and was especially proud of her roses. Her talents with cooking and sewing were a source of enjoyment for her friends, family, and anyone else lucky enough to experience them. Madonna experienced the world by traveling to Europe, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean with her husband, children and grandchildren. In her spare time Madonna could be found reclining in her comfy chair watching Hallmark movies and reading the Outlander series. Most of all she was a loving mother and matriarch to the Meeker Family.

A memorial mass will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church, with Father Conrad Sutter, and Deacon Kevin Wintersteller officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitations will be held 2 hours before service time at the church on Tuesday.
