Leo Von Derau

Roman Leo Von Derau, age 96, of Marseilles, Ohio passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 12:25am at his home.

Leo was born on March 9, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio to Roman A. and Birddella (Kechler) Von Derau, both of whom are deceased.  He married Helen L. Turner on December 30, 1952 and she passed away on April 25, 2018.

He is survived by a son, Shawn Von Derau of Marseilles, two granddaughters, Ashley (Chad) Clark of Marion, Ohio and Dawn Von Derau of Marseilles, as well as seven great grandchildren: Noah, Ashton, Nick, Cathy, Cameron, Carson, and Aaliyah. 

Leo was a 1942 graduate of Marseilles High School and went on to serve in the US Army during World War II and was part of the first wave in the Philippines.

Upon returning to the states, he started working for Tri County Lime Stone Quarry and spent the next 42 years

until his retirement.

For hobbies Leo was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed hunting.

Funeral services for Leo Von Derau will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, August 1st. at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Ted Malone officiating.  Burial will be at a later date at Chandler Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Saturday, August 1 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home.
