Lee Simon Obituary

Lee E. “Eddie” Simon, age 69, of Forest, Ohio, went to eternity on Friday, May 21, 2021.

 

Lee was born on September 19, 1951 in Kokomo, Indiana to Maurice H. and Sarah J. (Hulet) Simon, both of whom are deceased.  He married Diane Shaffer on August 16, 1975 in the Forest United Methodist Church and she survives.

 

He is also survived by 2 children: Dionne (Jeffrey) Staley of Forest, and Lee (Christy) Simon of Columbus, along with 2 granddaughters, Gianna and Jocelyn Staley of Forest. 

 

Lee is survived by 3 sisters: Jo (Don) Courtad of Forest, Maggie White of Lakeland, Florida, Ali (Kevin) Fitzpatrick of Tampa, Florida, and 2 brothers Pat Simon of Louisiana, and Pete Simon of Crystal River, Florida. Lee is also survived by his mother in law Patricia Shaffer, of Forest, sister in law Beth (Denny) Gillfillan, Forest, and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Rick, and a father in law, Frank Shaffer.

 

Lee was a 1971 graduate of Riverdale High School and after graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy.  He proudly served for 24 years and retired as a Senior Chief Petty officer.  After retiring from the Navy, Lee worked for CSP, formerly Budd Company, in Carey for 24 years.  From 1996 until 2004 he worked as a stained glass artist, making beautiful stained glass pieces for family, friends, churches, and donated many to local organizations.

 

Along with spending time with his family, his hobbies included playing his dulcimer, reading, gardening and taking care of animals.

 

Lee was a longtime member of the Grant United Methodist Church.  Member of the dulcimer group, Grant Us Mercy Trio. He was a member of the men group at Grant, Standing Strong. 

 

He also was a member of the American Legion Post #259, and the served on the honor guard for the VFW.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Grant United Methodist Church in Forest, with Rev. Cindy Morrison and Jeremy Gillfillan officiating.

 

There will be a visitation 30 minutes before service time.
