Larry Durlan Dumm, of rural Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Marion General Hospital, Marion Ohio, after a 2-year battle with cancer.
Larry was born February 5, 1946, in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Rev. Durlan and Alice (Sutherland) Dumm. After graduation from Kenmore High School in Akron, Ohio where his father was a minister, he attended and earned an undergraduate degree from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky where he met his wife, Linda (Brooks)Dumm, of Nevada, Ohio, and they were married September 9, 1967, and she survives.
He is survived by a son Lane, of California, a daughter, Lisa, of Columbus, sister Darlene (Mark) Schaefer of Florida, a nephew, Nathan Scherdin, of California, sister-in-law, Joyce (Scott) Wolf of Nevada and Dorothy (the late Wayne) Cluff of Marion.
In addition to his parents and parents-in-law, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Dumm, and a niece, Heather Haggerty.
Larry taught high school math in the East Canton School District, and in the LaRue Jr. High School in Marion County until joining his father-in-law, Richard Brooks, in his truck leasing business, taking over ownership following Richard’s death. Larry also partnered with the former Honey Creek Ham Company in Wyandot, Ohio, and was employed by the Carter (now Holmes) Lumber Company in Sunbury, Ohio as maintenance supervisor, also driving a truck for them prior to his retirement in October 2021.
For hobbies, Larry enjoyed following OSU football and restoring old cars and trucks. He was committed to ministry at his church in many capacities and enjoyed serving in ministry at Judson Hills and Koinonia Camp for a week each summer for about 30 years.
A memorial service for Larry Dumm will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Grand Prairie Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Goodwin officiating.
Visitations will be held 1 hour before service time, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grand Prairie Baptist Church or Koinonia Camp and Conference Center and be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 South Sandusky Avenue, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
