John Schaadt Obituary

John F. Schaadt, age 76, of Harpster, Ohio, passed away at 11:38 PM on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Westbrook Assisted Living & Memory Care in Upper Sandusky.

 

John was born on May 19, 1945, in Marion, Ohio, to Carl F. and Edith M. (Brewer) Schaadt, both of whom are deceased. He married Darlene Cottrell on July 3, 1965, in the Harpster United Methodist Church, and she passed away on August 13, 2020.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa (Doug) Kelly of Upper Sandusky.  6 grandchildren: Anthony Schaadt, Stevee Schaadt, Maegan (Josh) Bentley, Taelor (Dylan) Watson, Courtney (Shelby) Flowers, and Jaret Bricely, and 2 step-grandchildren, Caitlin (Matt) Wetherell and Jack Kelly, and 7 great-grandchildren, Zooey, Hawk, Sophia, Levi, Caroline, Alice, and Hallie Jo. Along with a sister-in-law, Cheryl Schaadt of Marion.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son Steven Schaadt, and a brother, Donald Schaadt.

 

John was a 1963 graduate of Ridgedale High School and went on to work for the Marion State Highway Department, then Todco Door in Upper Sandusky, then retiring after 41 years with the former BF Goodrich and then Parker Hannifin in Green Camp.

 

He was a former member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, where he was active with the choir, church council, and as an advisor with Luther League.  He transferred his membership to Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion, where he served on the church council, the properties board, and also sang in the senior choir. 

 

John was active in the village of Harpster, serving on council, as mayor, and also as a volunteer on the Pitt Township Fire Department. 

 

For hobbies, he enjoyed oil painting, going to classic car shows, traveling, and following the OSU Buckeyes, the Browns, and the Reds.

 

Funeral services for John F. Schaadt will be held at 5:00 pm Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Mark Schuring officiating.

 

Visitations will be held on Thursday, September 2, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the funeral home, and also the family will receive immediately following the service. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
