Janet Irene (Gerber) Barnes, age 90, of Upper Sandusky entered heaven on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
She was born on August 3, 1930 in Wyandot County, Ohio to Ernest and Agnes (Barth) Gerber.
Janet was a proud member of the 1948 graduating class of Nevada High School where she was a Nevada Bobcat cheerleader and played the violin in the school orchestra. After graduation, she attended Tiffin University where she was again selected as a cheerleader for the Dragons.
On April 14, 1951, Janet married the love of her life, Clyde Barnes and they shared 53 wonderful years together until his passing on December 7, 2004. Their favorite journey was to Switzerland to gather with her Gerber relatives. They enjoyed a hymn sing as well as many Beach Boy hits.
Janet was an extraordinary Mom to her family including children Mark (Jan) Barnes, Upper Sandusky, Marsha Barnes, Bucyrus, Dona (Steve) Mohr, Bucyrus and Randall Barnes, Parma, Grandchildren Beth (Jeremy) Barker, Stow, Doug (Crystal) Barnes, Findlay, Taylor Mohr (fiancée Perry Hull), Canton and Tyler Mohr (fiancée Mariah McLemore), Dayton and great grandchildren, Sadie and Bentley Barnes and Seth and Micah Barker.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and husband along with her brothers Paul and Wayne Gerber and sister-in-law Martha Gerber Zimmerman. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Ruth Gerber, Helen Barnes, Cletabelle Barnes and brothers-in-law Bob Zimmerman and Jim Wagner as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Janet and Clyde served 3 churches as pastor and wife, Hope UCC, Windfall UCC and Emanuel UCC where Janet was raised and returned as a member.
Janet enjoyed a successful career managing payroll for United Church Homes. She loved her job and enjoyed the people she worked with.
Janet will be remembered for her love of family, her strong personal faith in God, her kindness and her joy for life.
Services celebrating the life of Janet I. Barnes will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 14, 2021 at the Emanuel United Church of Christ, Upper Sandusky, with Pastor Jay Scott and Pastor Donald Corbin. Private burial will take place at Nevada Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Friday, 1 hour prior to service time, 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at the church.
