Harry R. “Bus” Phipps, Jr., age 96, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
Harry was born on November 18, 1926 in Monclova Township, Ohio, to Harry Sr. And Viola (Freshley) Phipps, both of whom are deceased. He was married to Evelyn (Cable) Schwenning and she survives in Upper Sandusky.
He is survived by his children, Tom (Carolyn) Phipps of Port Richey, Florida, Susan Phipps of Central Point, Oregon, Dave (Jean) Schwenning of Bucyrus, Don (Valerie) Schwenning of Upper Sandusky, Tom (Nataliya) Schwenning of Crestline, Tim (Ronda) Schwenning of Palmetto, Georgia, and Matt (Mary Anne) Schwenning of Carey. Three grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, and Michael Phipps, and twenty-one step grandchildren. He is survived by a sister, Bess Ramlow of Maumee.
Harry was preceded in death by a stepson, Mark Schwenning, and two grandsons, Sam Phipps, and Benjamin John Schwenning and
He was a 1944 graduate of Monclova High School and went on to serve in the US Army during World War II.
Harry retired as an accountant with Owens-Illinois in Toledo after many years.
For hobbies, Harry enjoyed golfing throughout the years, having recorded a hole-in-one.
A graveside service for Harry “Bus” Phipps will be held at 1:00pm Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Fort Meigs Cemetery, with Chaplain Steve Sturgeon officiating.
