Harold Eugene Stone, age 92, of 3970 State Hwy 294, Harpster, OH passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio.
He was born on Sept. 1, 1928 in New Boston, Ohio to James O. Stone and Audrey Frances (Perry) Stone, both of whom are deceased. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his 4 siblings, Ottis Stone, William Stone, Doris Boley, Georgia Williams, and one grandson, Mark Stone.
Harold is survived by his wife of 72 years, Leah Jean (Frey) Stone, Harpster; his five children, Karen (Sherman) Dow , Lake Bluff, Ill; Gwen (Frisch, Watkins) Stone, Harpster; Jill Stone, Delaware; Todd (Kim) Stone, Bellevue; and Hal E. Stone, Carmichael, CA; seven grandchildren, N. Martin Frisch, Janelle Cox, Leslie Beaschler, Kelly Stone, Abra Mason, Erin Habib and Vada Stone; eight great grandchildren, Amber, Gabe, Lexie, Ava, Annabelle, Hayden, Maxwell and Remy; one great-great grandson, Lincoln and two brothers, Jack (Lynda) Stone, Franklin, TN; and Robert (Deb) Stone, Carmel, IN.
A 1946 Graduate of Harpster High School, he attended Bluffton College one year. He served from 1948 to 1954 in the Military Btry “B” 174 FA BN ONG. He wasn’t chosen. He volunteered. He was very proud of his service to his country. He served a 4 year Electrician Apprenticeship on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad in Marion, OH, then to assistant to the Master Mechanic for 26 years, working in various supervisory positions until 1974. He then worked as Building-Grounds Maintenance Supervisor for Guardian Industries, Upper Sandusky, until retirement in 1990. In retirement, he worked 12 years part time at Hickory Grove Golf Course in Harpster, OH.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle (the Tri-Magnum) and playing golf for Marion Area Seniors, Wyandot County Seniors and Guardian Industries and was a member of several winning teams. One of his greatest joys was shooting a hole-in-one on hole number seven at his home course, Hickory Grove. He also enjoyed traveling, making throw rugs on an antique rug loom, spending time with family and attending birthday, anniversary parties and Kentucky family reunions. He was a Life Member of the Elks BPOE #83 in Upper Sandusky. He was a member of the Harpster United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and various offices in the church.
Funeral services for Harold E. Stone will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Soo-Hea Park officiating. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
