Gerald L. Swerline, age 83, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Westbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care in Upper Sandusky.
Gerald was born on October 22, 1937 in Sycamore, Ohio, to Adam D. and Cora A. (Riedel) Swerline. He was married to Bell Hiatt on November 20, 1955 in Sycamore, Ohio, by his father in law, Rev. Truman Hiatt, and she passed away on July 7, 2015. He then married Evelyn Dennison and she also passed away.
He is also survived by 2 children: Belinda (Keith) Wodrich, and Jerry (Pam) Swerline, both of Upper Sandusky. 4 grandchildren, Lindsay (Brent) Baker, Jaron (Tristin) Swerline, Colin Pneuman, Gretchen (TJ) McNew, and 12 great grandchildren: Adrian, Jovin and Oliver Baker, Molly and Wyatt Swerline, Leah, Greyson and Scarlet Pneuman, and Jaxon, Sydney, Cora Bell and Everleigh McNew. Along with a sister, Janet (Ralph) Decker of Sycamore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, spouses Bell and Evelyn and a brother Dwight, and a sister Donna Minter.
Gerald was a 1955 graduate of Sycamore High School and went on to work International Harvester Dealerships in Tiffin, Findlay, and Bucyrus. He then started in 1979 Swerline Service and Fix It in Upper Sandusky for many years until retirement.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky, and was active in the church as a trustee, greeter, and usher, along with being a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class.
Gerald also was a former assistant Boy Scout Leader and enjoyed square dancing with the Wyandot Squares.
For hobbies, he enjoyed building, and operating his radio controlled airplanes, and also enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Ireland, California and day trips to Amish Country.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Trinity Evangelical U.M.C., 108 Malabar Dr,, Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore.
Visitations will be held 2 hours before service time on Saturday, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church.
