George E. Kraus

George E. Kraus, age 70, of Tiffin, Ohio, and formerly of Upper Sandusky, passed away at 4:45 PM, on Monday, February 27, 2023, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin, Ohio.

George was born in Upper Sandusky, on July 14, 1952, to Frederick Kraus and Jean Gillespie-VanHorn and they preceded him in death. He was married to Martha Shaffer on October 14, 1972 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, and she survives in Tiffin, Ohio.

George is survived by his 2 children, Dustin (Kara) Kraus of Delaware, daughter Nicole (Tom) Menning of Toledo, along with his 3grandchildren, Tylar Menning, Alex, and Ava Kraus, his brother Joe (Cindy) Kraus, and sister Teri Myers, both of Upper Sandusky.

George was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Glen VanHorn Sr., brothers Dick and Michael Kraus, and his sister Amy Lemmon.

George graduated from Upper Sandusky High School, class of 1970, and attended Tiffin University where he received his associate degree in business. He went on to work as a manufacturing supervisor retiring from American Fine Sinter of Tiffin, and before that he had worked for National Machinery, Cooper Standard, both of Tiffin, and Whirlpool of Clyde, Ohio. 

He was a member since 1978 of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Tiffin, and also a former member of the Old Fort Lions Club.  George also was a member of the Phi Theta Pi Alumni Association.

George enjoyed tinkering around the house, and working with his hands, having built a pull behind camper from scratch.  He enjoyed camping, biking and going on bicycling tours that were held locally, and most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. 

A memorial service for George E. Kraus will be held at 11:00am Monday, March 6, at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Jan Kucera officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, March 5, from 2pm to 5pm at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
