Dwight L. Mattix, age 67, of Wharton, Ohio, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Findlay Hospice Care Center.
Dwight was born on November 17, 1953 in Morrow County, Ohio, to Ivan and Nora (Johns) Mattix. He married Connie Bash on September 6, 1997, at the Lighthouse in Marblehead.
He is survived by 3 children: Rhonda (Bert Jr.) Grubbs of Kenton, Ohio, Shane (Andrea) Mattix, and Josh (Liberty) Mattix, both of Mt. Gilead, Ohio. 6 grandchildren: Alexis and Bert Andy Grubbs, Emily and William Mattix, Ivan and Parker Mattix. Along with 2 sisters: Sue (Willy) Allison of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Beatrice “Cookie” Schulz of Chandler, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers - James, Bill, Rex, Bernard, and Richard Mattix.
Dwight was a 1970 graduate of Northmor High School and recently retired from Yellow Freight after 32 years of driving, and where he was awarded the Million Mile Award for being incident free.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1093 in Upper Sandusky.
For hobbies, Dwight enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, riding his motorcycle, playing basketball and following sports, and woodworking, along with his mechanical gift of fixing things.
He will be remembered for his tireless work ethic and never being idle. His pride in the USA, our flag, and what the USA stood for was unwavering.
Funeral services for Dwight L. Mattix will be held at 11:00am Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Wharton, Richland, Union Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 11, from 5pm to 8pm at the Lucas-Batton Fuenral Home, and 1 hour before service time on Friday at the funeral home.
