Donald M. Bassler, age 90, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021, at 9:16 am at his home in Upper Sandusky.
Donald was born on March 13, 1931, in Wyandot County, Ohio, to Jacob and Alma (Masters) Bassler, both of whom are deceased. He married Catherine Brooks on April 8, 1956, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, and she passed away on September 14, 2004.
He is survived by 3 sons, Jeffery (Karen) Bassler, Steven (Ava) Bassler, and James Bassler, all of Upper Sandusky. 3 grandchildren, Joshua (Christin) Bassler of Upper Sandusky, Matthew Bassler of Toledo, Stephanie Bassler of Upper Sandusky, and 2 great grandchildren, Kyler Trent and Jacob Bassler.
Donald is also survived by a sister Shirley Schrote of Nevada, Ohio, and a special friend, Ruth Patton of Toledo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son Michael Bassler, and a sister, Marjorie Shenefield.
Donald was a 1949 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and went on to serve our country in the US Army during the Korean War. After returning from the war he proceeded to farm with his father on the family farm and continued the farming operation well into his 80’s with his 3 sons.
He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, and supported his sons, while they were active in school in FFA.
Don will be remembered for his story telling, and his love for his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral services for Donald M. Bassler will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Pastor Doug Pummel officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, August 17, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home.
