Debra Renee (Carter) Payne, age 63, of Sycamore, Ohio, passed away on May 4, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving husband Steve, and loved ones and friends.
Deb was born on March 16, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, to William and Ineze (Sargent) Carter. She is survived by her husband Steve Grant Payne of 38 years.
She is the mother of 1 daughter Carrie Kyan Payne, 2 sons; Ryan Lee Sherer and William Wesley Grant (Michelle) Payne, both of Sycamore, Ohio, her loving fur Baby Carter. She is the grammy to Alexis and Brandon Sherer both of Sycamore, Wesley Payne of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Heath Hill of Marble Falls, Texas, and 1 great grandson on the way. A sister to Carl Taylor Carter, and 2 very special sisters; Pam (Mark) Ramanko of Sycamore, Ohio, and Nora “Sissy” Kelley of Palestine, West Virginia. Daughter in law of Wesley and Bernice Payne of Upper Sandusky, Sister in law to Chris (Sandy) Payne of McCutchenville, Ohio, and Ron (Sue) Payne of Freemont, Ohio. Along with numerous nieces and nephews who love her dearly.
Deb was preceded in death by her father, mother, daughter, brother, father in law, sister in law Sandy, and an extra special friend Elva Kelley.
Deb was a longtime resident of Sycamore, Ohio. She graduated from Mohawk High School in 1978, Marion Technical College with an associate degree in nursing, and Colorado Technical College in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing Home Administration. Encouraged by a friend and coworker Susan Cenkus who encouraged her to advance her career to becoming a DON, she was most recently the DON at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. She had a 28-year career in nursing for which she loved.
Deb loved trips to Cabwaylingo Park in West Virginia, spending time with family playing cards, working on puzzles, and making flower arrangements for her family’s cemetery.
She also enjoyed collecting salt/pepper shakers and light houses. She loved going to Port Clinton to look at the light house. She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family for years.
She is a member at Plankton United Methodist Church.
A funeral service for Deb Payne will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, which will be officiated by Pastor Brad Smith and Debra’s nursing career will be honored by the Ohio Nurse Honor Guard Coalition at the conclusion of the service.
Visitations will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the funeral home on Monday, prior to the service.
