Obituary

Darrel Lust, age 87, passed away on February 9, 2023, at his home in Morral, Ohio, surrounded by his family.

Darrel was born on June 11, 1935, in Bucyrus, Ohio to Chester and Leota (Brooks) Lust, both of whom are deceased. He married Joyce K. Faine on January 27, 1963, in Marion, Ohio and she passed away on November 24, 2010.

He is survived by his children, Brenda (Kenn) Runkle, and Tom (Tina) Lust, both of Morral. Four grandchildren, Emily Runkle, Daniel (Makenzie) Lust, Clayton Lust, and Isaac Lust, along with two greatgrandchildren, Rhett and Josie Lust.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, and his twin brother, Merrel.

Darrel was a 1953 graduate of Harpster High School where he played baseball and basketball. He received, along with his brother, the American Farmer Degree from FFA.

Darrel and his brother, Merrel, started farming together after graduating from high school and thus began Lust Brothers. They continued the family farming operation for 70 years and it continues today with the 2nd and 3rd generation of Lust’s.

He was a lifelong member of the Grand Prairie Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee, and on the pulpit committee along with Sunday School Superintendent. He also was a served on the Soil and Water Conservation District, and the ASC Committee, both in Marion County.

Darrel loved to sit on his back deck and watch the deer, and he enjoyed taking care of his lawn He enjoyed hunting and his big game trips to Wyoming with his brother through the years. “If you knew Darrel, you also knew his twin brother, Merrel. They were two peas in a pod. They loved to tell stories and loved to listen to other people’s stories. If you ever talked to them, you would always leave with a smile on your face.”

Funeral services for Darrel Lust will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the Grand Prairie Baptist Church. 4893 Marion-Upper Sandusky Rd., Marion with Rev. Ed Goodwin and Rev. Wilfred Verhoff officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery.

Visitations will be held from 11:00-2:00 at the church, prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the Grand Prairie Baptist Church or to Capital City Hospice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
