Daniel Schertzer Obituary

Daniel Lee Schertzer, age 74, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.  He battled cancer for five years. 

Dan was born February 25, 1947 in Shelby, Ohio to Jesse Newton Schertzer and Dorothy Jarvis Schertzer.  He married Mary Ann Brown on May 28, 1967 at John Stewart United Methodist Church.  She survives.

Dan is also survived by his daughter Stephanie (Tim) Wilson and two granddaughters, Presley and Hadley, from Kenton, Ohio; his two sisters Susan Sandridge and Mary Kay (Denny) McGuire; his brother Art (Clara) Schertzer  and a sister-in-law Margaret Schertzer, all of Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

His parents, Newt and Dorothy, brother Tom Schertzer and brother-in-law Bill Sandridge have preceded him in death.

Dan graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1965.  After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1968, and received military recognition in a private pinning ceremony prior to his passing. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, AMVETS, and the Elks.  Following his military service, Dan went to IBEWs Local 688 apprenticeship school for four years.  The worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 40 years until his retirement.

Dan enjoyed walking, reading, crossword puzzles, and his Tuesday night meetings with friends.  Dan’s greatest joys were his grandchildren who he loved dearly.  He loved to attend Presley’s volleyball games and musical plays and Hadley’s soccer and basketball games.  He also enjoyed family vacations at the beach and Vegas trips with his friends.

Services for Daniel Lee Schertzer will be private and held a later date. 

His last request was for you to pay it forward by donating your eyeglasses and cases for others.  Donations may be dropped off at or mailed to Lucas Batton Funeral Home at 476 S. Sandusky Ave, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
