Byron H. "Barney" Snyder

Byron H. “Barney” Snyder, age 93, of Upper Sandusky, and formerly of Sycamore, Ohio, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Byron was born January 4, 1923 in Wyandot County, Ohio to William and Alpha (Sheaffer) Snyder, both of whom are deceased.  He married Maxine L. Pritchard on March 5, 1961 in New Winchester, Ohio, and she passed away on November 30, 2002. 

He is survived by 3 sons: Jerry (Deanna) Snyder of Harviell, Missouri, Paul (Jana) Snyder of Sycamore, David Snyder of Bluefield, West Virginia, and a daughter, Mary (Jack) Lieb of Norwalk. 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and a sister Lois Pfeiffer of Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Patsy Valentine, 2 grandchildren, Michele and Ryan Smetzler, 4 brothers; Nelson, Donald, Edwin and Lloyd Snyder, and 6 sisters, Mildred Sealey, Martha Long, Hazel, Cecil, Ethel and Dorothy Snyder

Byron worked for the Wyandot County Highway Department for over 40 years.  He was a member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church and served the church through the years in many capacities. 

He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a MP with the US Army.

For hobbies, Byron enjoyed farming, raising various livestock, and working around the house and farm, always finding something to keep himself busy. 

Funeral services for Byron H. Snyder will be held at 11:00am Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Rick Dawson officiating.  Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery with military graveside rites to be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.

Visitations will be held on Thursday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
