Winifred Mary Yeates, age 96, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio and formerly of Jackson, Michigan and Loveland, Colorado, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 4:55PM at the Fairhaven Retirement and Healthcare Community in Upper Sandusky.
Wynne was born on December 3, 1915 in Rexon Cross, Devon England to James and Rosina (Goodyer) Gerry. She married Charles Herbert Yeates and he is deceased.
Surviving are two children: Alan (Nancy) Yeates of Carey, Ohio and Penny Huntley-Rollins of Arizona, along with three grandchildren, Derek (Rachel) Huntley, Kevin (Amy) Yeates, Jeremy (Sarah) Yeates and five great grandchildren,Aiden Gray Yeates, Charlotte Rose Yeates, Cora Grace Yeates, Brynn Rose and Norah Lynn Huntley.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Frank Gerry and and two sisters Grace and Mae.
Wynne was a registered nurse. She served in the British Army in England on a surgical ward, and was also stationed in India for four years, tending to British soldiers released from prison. Wynne met and married Charles Yeates while both were stationed in India.
Winifred was also a RN here in America, until she retired at the age of 62, and then worked part-time on the Psych Unit. She has been a PEO sister for 50 years, volunteered at her church with the mentally handicapped participants, and volunteered at the hospital gift shop. Work and helping others have been Wynne's life and passion. She loved animals and reading (even at 95!). Wynne was described as a "small woman with a big heart" who would give to anyone and everyone, and "the best friend a person could ask for".

Funeral services for Winifred Mary Yeates will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Michigan.
Visitations will be held an hour before service time, 1:00PM to 2:00PM, at the
Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McKee Medical Center Foundation-Stepping Stone Adult Day Program or the Wyandot Health Foundation-Wyandot Memorial Hospital and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
