William "Bill" R. Conklin, age 71, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 5:33pm at his home surrounded by his family.
Bill was born on July 23, 1943 in Marion, Ohio. His parents were Cleo and Mabel (Everly) Conklin, both of whom are deceased. He married Joan Welch on November 1, 1961 in Mt. Morris, Illinois, and she survives.
Surviving are 5 children: Terri L. Phillips,Upper Sandusky, Karen S. (James) Stewart of Wharton, Vicki S. (Ronald) Rock of Zainesville, Sherri L. (Tony) smith of New Town, PA, and Linda S. (Charles) Hoy of Upper Sandusky, along with 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by 2 brothers, Charles Arthur of Elkton, Virginia, and Richard (Sheila) Arthur of Marion, 3 sisters, Kay Powellson of Marion, Virginia (Paul) Wamsley of Shannondoah, Virginia and Shirley Brandywine of Marion.
He was preceded in death by a son William Jr., 3 brothers, Larry Sheppard and Donald "Bud" Gorrell and Ernest Gorrell, and 2 sisters, Marlene Williams, and Alma Keck.
Bill worked for 25 years for Armco Steel having worked in Marion and also in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was a member of Wildwood Chapel in Upper Sandusky. And also was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Labor Union,#3185, and was named and known by his fellow workers as "Groundhog".
He enjoyed shooting, fishing, and using his crossbow, and coon hunting. He loved to work on tractors and trucks and just being in the great outdoors.
Funeral services for William R. Conklin will be held 11:00am on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Wildwood Chapel in rural Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, April 29, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, a 1 hour before service time at the church on Thursday.
