Rev. William H. Jenkins, age 100, passed away on Sunday, August 12 at 12:59pm at
The Inn at Westbrook in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Bill was born on April 29, 1912 in Kimberly, Ohio to Rev. Ambrose J. and Alice (Mays) Jenkins. He married Mary Roberts on July 19, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio and she passed away on October 11, 2000.
Surviving is a daughter Alice Kay (Thomas) Hilderbrand of Ada, Ohio and 2 special nieces, Jinx Staniec of Stockton, California and Trish (Tim) Malloy of Columbus along
with special friends, Jack and Judy Mumma of Upper Sandusky and their children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 5 brothers, Emery, David, Theodore, Lawrence and John.
Bill was a graduate of Shenandoah University of Winchester, Virginia along with Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania and then Bonebreak Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Bill was a retired United Methodist Minister having been ordained since 1933 and served the following churches in the West Virginia United Methodist Conference: Buckhannon U.M.C. in Buckhannon, Dunbar First U.M.C. in Dunbar, and the Clarksburg U.M.C in Clarksburg. He then served as conference officer for Special Programs and went on to serve on the Denomination's Board U.M.C of Home Missions E.U.B..
Bill's ministry then took him to Dayton, Ohio to serve on the Department of Stewardship-E.U.B. and then the Council of Ministries also in Dayton. He retired from active ministry in 1977, and continued working as a real estate agent in the Dayton area. He also became a certified locksmith.
Bill and his wife Mary retired in Upper Sandusky in 1981 where he attended the John Stewart U.M.C., and served for a brief time as their interim pastor. For hobbies, he enjoyed woodworking and leading his daily "sit and be fit" classes at the Inn at Westbrook.
Funeral services for Rev. William H. Jenkins will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating the services. Burial will follow at the Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wyandot County Home Health, the John Stewart United Methodist Church, or Hospice of Wyandot County in care of the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
