William Lee Archer, 79, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
He was born in Dover, Ohio on February 25, 1936 to Columbus and Hazel (Mallet) Archer. He married Margaret Mast on June 2, 1955 and she passed away on November 4, 2011. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005.
Bill was extremely loving and proud of his two daughters, Cynthia (Joseph) Brocklesby, of Madisonville, LA and Sally (Randy) Moore, of Upper Sandusky. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jason Brocklesby, Ryan Brocklesby, Lauren Brocklesby, Jill Moore Karcher, Christopher (Heidi) Moore and great grandchildren, Wyatt Karcher, Owen Karcher, Jackson and Lincoln Moore. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Annabelle Archer, Maxine Archer and Carol Mast as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 4 brothers, Harold, Walter, Earl and Ralph Archer, and 4 sisters, Dorothy Williams, Myrtle Fair, Anna Archer, and Gladys Weimer.
Bill was a quiet man who enjoyed time with his family, bird watching, mowing his yard and his 2 cats. Prior to his failing health he enjoyed fishing and golf. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1954 and also attended The Ohio State University. He served in the Navy on the destroyer USS Beale from 1954-1958 where he traveled throughout the Mideast and Africa. He retired with 30 years of service from the USDA Soil Conservation Service.
Bill was a long time member and former elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Upper Sandusky. He was a member of the American Legion.
Funeral services for William L. Archer will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Kenneth Wessler officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitations will be held 2 hours prior to service, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to The Wound Clinic at The Wyandot Memorial Hospital, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
