Wilbur G. Zimmerman

Wilbur G. Zimmerman, age 90, of Upper Sandusky, died Saturday,
November 29, 2008 at 5:45pm in the Fairhaven Community-Main Campus, in Upper Sandusky.

Wilbur was born on September 21, 1918 in Upper Sandusky to Frank and Lucy (Bessinger) Zimmerman, both of whom are deceased. He married Sarah Frances Roberts on July 13, 1944 in Thomasville, Georgia and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters: Sandra Faye Hemmerly of Upper Sandusky and Marcia Ann Geary of Upper Sandusky. A
son, Marshall "Sonny" Robert Zimmerman of Marengo also survives, along with three grandchildren: Timothy Lopez of Parma, Ohio; Stacy Clark of Upper Sandusky; Robin Swihart of Upper Sandusky. Nine great grandchildren: Abbey, Larena, Jordan, Chelsea, Jared, Jonah, Miranda, Katie and Nicholas and a great great granddaughter, Giselle.

Wilbur is also survived by two sister in laws, Adda Zimmerman of Upper Sandusky and Beatrice Zimmerman of Flint, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Harley, Carl, Edward, Harry "Dutch", and Gilbert "Hank" Zimmerman and two sisters: Mary E. Zimmerman and Anna Louise Beard.

Wilbur worked for over 30 years for Warfel Plumbing & Heating in Upper Sandusky and later worked part time for the American Legion in Upper Sandusky.

He was a long time member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, and was one of the members at the time that participated in the march from the old church, at the corner of Bigelow and N. Sandusky Ave. to the present building. He was a life member of the American Legion Post # 225 where he participated for many years with the Honor Guard Burial Detail.

He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army Air Corps spending 4 years at Turner Field in Albany, Georgia. He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1938 where he participated in football and basketball.

For hobbies Wilbur enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, raising many dogs and cats and feeding the birds. He was an avid hunter and trapper and was a fan of the New York Yankees.

Funeral services for Wilbur G. Zimmerman will be at 10:30am, Wednesday, December 3, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Henry Siebert officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mission Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the various service organizations in Upper.

Visitations will be Tuesday, December 2, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and 1 hour of calling before service time at the church on Wednesday.
