Wendell R. Garber, age 85, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Monday
June 15, 2015 at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Wendell was born March 20, 1930 in Warren, Ohio, to William and Eva Mae (Hogan) Garber, both of whom are deceased. He married Reva Orians on September 15, 1956 at St. Peter's Catholic Church and she passed away on April 16, 2007.
He is survived by 3 sons: Jeffrey (Debra) Garber of Sycamore, Gregory (Karina) Garber of Upper Sandusky, and Todd (Shelly) Garber of Bucyrus. 6 grandchildren: Weston Garber of Scottsdale, Arizona, Cale (Stacy) Garber of Westerville, Bria (Clint) Zimmerman of Marysville, Wyatt Garber of Upper Sandusky, Zoe Garber of Upper Sandusky and Raeanna Garber of Sycamore, along with 2 great grandchildren, Cash Zimmerman and Tessa Garber.
Wendell is also survived by his sister, Monnie Wolfe of Upper Sandusky.
Wendell was a 1949 graduate of Nevada High School and went on to serve during the Korean War in the US Navy, having served on the USS Bryce Canyon and the USS Epperson Destroyer.
Wendell retired after 27 years with Rockwell in Kenton, having worked in the tool and die department.
He was a member of Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky. A member of the BPOE #83, American Legion Post #250, Amvets 777,
3rd. Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus #2050, Stone Crossing Country Club, and Salem St. Joseph's Heritage Society.
For hobbies he enjoyed bowling, playing golf, following all the Cleveland sports teams, and the OSU Buckeyes.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00am in the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, with Father J.R. Hadnagy O. F. M. Conv. Officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
Visitations will be held on Friday, June 19, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. There will be a scripture service held at 1:30pm on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic School, or Wyandot Memorial Scholarship Fund and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
