Wayne was a 3rd generation farmer in Mifflin Township having farmed his entire life.  He was a 1959 graduate of Salem High School, where he participated in baseball, basketball, and FFA.  After graduating, he continued his love for baseball playing men's softball for Bethany Church and Kirby Landmark softball teams. He attended the State High School Basketball Tournament every year since 1966 with his lifelong friend, Dennis Swartz.

He was a long-time member of Bethany Lutheran Church until it closed in 1989.

He was most currently a member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky and took part in the Hope group at the church.  Wayne was introduced to dartball at the age of 8 and shortly afterward began playing in the church dartball leagues and continued to do so throughout his life, with Bethany, North Salem, St. Paul, and Trinity.  He was a coveted member of the team and helped win numerous dartball tournaments.

Wayne enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, planting trees, mowing, following the Ohio State Buckeyes, and Cleveland Indians.  He loved the game of baseball and was known to be quite a historian of the game.

He will be remembered for his loving spirit and his gift of hospitality, as his home was a welcoming place for many throughout the years.
