Walter L. Varney, age 82, of Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 5:15pm at Heartland of Marion, Ohio.

Walter was born December 11, 1933 in Peach Creek, West Virginia to Archie and Alma Jean (Burgess) Varney, both of whom are deceased.  He married  Dorothy Christina Long on January 4, 1952 in Greenbriar County, West Virginia, and she passed away on September 19, 2000.

He is survived by his children; Donna Lee McCoy of Clarkburg, West Virginia, Debra Ann (Brian) Kempf of Stryker, Ohio, Drema Kay Arthur of Nevada, and David Ray (Pam) Varney of Marion.  8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, along with 2 brothers, Bill (Lee) Varney of Prosperity, South Carolina, Lowell (Sue) Varney of Carey, 4 sisters, Ardena (Robert) Gumm of Jackson, Tennessee,  Mary (Forest) Nicely of Clifton Forge, Virginia, Joyce Thompson of Sandyville, West Virginia, Della (Ray) Meyers, of Carey, and a half sister, Debbie Hubbard of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, D. Dianne Swick, 6 grandchildren, and a brother Jim Varney.

Walter worked for 33 years for Paper, Calmenson & Company in Bucyrus.

He was a member of the Calvery Bible Baptist Church in Marion, where he faithfully maintained the

Church for many years.

For hobbies he enjoyed gardening, traveling, bowling, watching his birds, squirrels and raising flowers.  He loved to read his Bible, listening to old time gospel hymns.

He will be remembered for his Christian faith, his love for his family, his work ethic along with his love for gardening.

Funeral services for Walter L. Varney will be held at 11:00am Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Calvary Bible Baptist Church, with Rev. Floyd Radebaugh officiating.  Burial will take place at Nevada Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and 1 hour before service time at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Bible Baptist Church and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
