Walter Alvin (Mike) Markley

Walter Alvin "Mike" Markley, age 80, of Nevada, Ohio, passed away on June 3, 2013 at 5:45PM at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. His death was unexpected.

Mike was born on November 12, 1932 in Nevada, Ohio, to Raymond and Lucille (Walter) Markley, both of whom are deceased. He married Carrie Gladys Monroe on July 2, 1951 in Richmond, Indiana, and she survives.

He is also survived by 3 children, Sharon Rose (Roger) Pritchard of Bucyrus, Deborah Kay Boles of Bucyrus, and Craig Raymond (Christie) Markley of Toledo. Along with 8 grand children, Tobey, Tyrra, Brook, Tami, Ty, Taylor, Ashley and Marybeth and 6 great grandchildren.

Mike is also survived by 2 brothers, Fred (Wanda) Markley of Upper Sandusky and Verl (Sue) Markley of Bucyrus and 2 sisters, Ellen Johnson of Nevada and Vergene (Jim) Stuckman of Bucyrus.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Dale and James Markley.

Mike was a graduate of Nevada High School in 1950, where he played basketball and baseball. He had several jobs he enjoyed, including delivering furniture for Nevada Furniture in his younger years before working for Swan, Ohio Locomotive Crane, and finally retiring from Timken Roller Bearing after 37 years of service.

Mike will always be remembered for his enjoyment of woodworking and crafts, going to the woods for berry picking and mushroom hunting, going to auctions, and wheeling and dealing at flea markets.

Funeral services for Mike Markley will be held at 11:00AM Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery.

Visitations will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada.
