Vernon L. Stansbery

Vernon L. Stansbery, age 80, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio died at 8:43am on Monday, July 13, 2009 at his home.

Vernon was born on August 3, 1928 in Mifflin Township, Ohio to Lester A. and Lucille A. (Rangler) Stansbery, both of whom are deceased.

Vernon married Vera Jane Plott on October 15, 1949 in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and she survives in Upper Sandusky.

Also surviving Vernon are two sons: Martin A. (Kellie) Stansbery of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, & Scott L. (Jill) Stansbery of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, one daughter, Susan L. (David) Ohl of Upper Sandusky, Ohio and five grandchildren: Benjamin, Julie, and Alec Stansbery, Aden & Lauren Ohl.

Also surviving Vernon is a brother, Sherman (Sally) Stansbery of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, a sister, Martha Passett of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and a step brother, Ned Winter of Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Vernon was preceded in death by one precious granddaughter, Abby Jo Stansbery, and a brother, Clair Stansbery.

Vernon was a lifetime resident and third generation farmer in Mifflin Township except when he was away serving in the US Army. He was also a lifetime member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and was a lay leader for many years. He also was a 1946 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School.

Vernon served as a trustee for Mifflin Township for 24 years, serving at the same time on the joint hospital board of Wyandot Memorial Hospital and also on the board of the former US Commission. He also was a 25 year member of the Upper Sandusky Lions Club.

Vernon was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed playing 6-handed Euchre with a group of friends, and he enjoyed following all of his grandchildren's activities and sporting events.

Funeral Services for Vernon L Stansbery will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio with the Rev. Tim Benjamin officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Visitations will be held on Thursday July 16, 2009 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
