Vernon "Pete" P. Spiegel

Vernon P. "Pete" Spiegel, age 85, of rural Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 10:15am at his home.

Pete was born on June 6, 1931 in Wyandot County, Ohio to Charles H. and Vera G. (Johns) Spiegel, both of whom are deceased.  He married Norma Barth on May 5, 1951 and she survives.

He is also survived by two children:  Diana (Jerry) Wheeler of Nevada, Michael (Peggy) Spiegel of Wharton, Ohio.  Five grandchildren: Andy (Amanda) Wheeler of Cardington, Leslie (Matt) Barto of Bucyrus, Ryan (Sarah) Spiegel of Morral, Rachel (Jason) Shepherd of Nevada, Chris (Heather) Waggy of Upper Sandusky, along with 10 great grandchildren: Bryce, Allyson, Maddyson, Blayne and Abbygail Stewart, Cami Alloway, Miley Waggy, Bailey and Mason Spiegel, and Emma Shepherd.

Pete is also survived by a brother Max (Anita) Spiegel of Sulphur Springs, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Renee Marie Spiegel, seven brothers: Jack, Clarence, Jerry, Robert, Wayne, Dwight, Glenn Spiegel, and three sisters, Joanna Snavely, Jean Reininger, and Mae Dolly Smith.

Pete had worked for the former Coby's Manufacturing in Bucyrus, and then went to work for the former Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria for over 25 years.  He then worked

for Wyandot-Vogel Bulk Plant in Morral until his retirement.

He was a long time member of the Emanuel United Church of Christ in rural Upper Sandusky, where he served at one time on the consistory, as a deacon, elder, and the property committee.  He also was a former member of the Nevada Lions Club.

For hobbies he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, working with his model trains, watching John Wayne movies, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Vernon "Pete" Spiegel will be held at 11:00am Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Randy Diller Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery.

Visitations will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Friday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada.
