Thelma Van Atta Shank formerly of Arlington and Rawson, OH died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2008 at The Inn at Westbrook, Upper Sandusky, OH. She was 84.
Thelma was born May 10, 1923 in Findlay, OH. She was a daughter of Murvin Burr and Gladys (Yates) Van Atta. She married Rodney Shank on September 30, 1944 in Spartanburg, South Carolina and he died November 12, 1986.
Mrs. Shank is survived by a daughter, Janel (Tom) Needs of Upper Sandusky, OH; a son, Van (Patricia) Shank, Richmond, IN: seven grandchildren Julia Needs Grunden, Pittsburg, PA; Jennifer Needs Homburg, Upper Sandusky, OH; David Needs and Daniel Needs, both of Perrysburg, OH; Lara Shank Blomburg and Amanda Shank both of Indianapolis; Bradley Shank, Ft. Wayne, IN: five great-grandchildren Luke and Claire Grunden; Katie and Matthew Homburg; and Cameryn Needs. She is also survived by two brothers, Murvin B. Ban Atta Jr., Findlay, OH and John Van Atta, Williamstown.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Naomi Ilene Van Atta and Donna Ruth Van Atta: two brothers, Herschel Van Atta and James Van Atta.
A 1941 graduate of Arlington High School, Mrs. Shank was a homemaker and worked for Tripplett Electrical Co of Bluffton, OH . She was an active member of the Arlington Bible Fellowship Church of Arlington, OH where she served as deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and nursery worker. She was a board member of Findlay Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was also a member of the Tawa Garden Club. Thelma also enjoyed sewing for family and friends.
The funeral is at 2:00 p.m. Sunday February 24, 2008 at Bible Fellowship Church with Pastor Jerry Kellogg officiating. Burial will be in Powell Cemetery, Eagle Township. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
