Sidney Charles Maples, age 66, of Sycamore, Ohio, passed away at his home on Friday, February 28, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Sidney was born to Charles F. and Clara L. (Bantzhaff) Maples on May 29, 1958. He married Nancy A. Koons on October 31, 1981, in the Brokensword United Methodist Church, and she survives.
He is also survived by his children: Beth (John) Bond of Eugene, Oregon, Alaina (David) Crall of Bucyrus, and Cyndy (Jeremiah) Bertsch of Sycamore, along with 10 grandchildren, Alex, Mars, and Jay Bond, Gwen, William and Daniel Crall, James, Jethro, Josiah, and Joy Bertsch.
Sidney is also survived by his sisters, Suzanne Burkhart of Bloomville, Paula (Mike) Ridgeway of Upper Sandusky, 3 step-sisters, Doris (Dale) Bloomfield of Bucyrus, Vivian Shumaker of Galion, and Connie Seville of Bucyrus, along with 3 brothers-in-law, Chuck Koons of Bucyrus, Doug (Debbie) Koons of Bucyrus, and Charles Heinlen of Vermilion, father-in-law, Delbert Koons of Bucyrus, and many nieces and nephews, and his baby dog, Hazel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Richard Oberlander, mother-in-law, Marilyn Koons, step sister Nancy Heinlen, sister in law, Penny Koons, brothers-in-law, Dennis Seville, Robert Burkhart, and Robert Shumaker, and a nephew, Jacob Teynor.
Sidney was a graduate of Wynford High School, class of 1976, and the first graduating class of Pioneer Vocational School, with a building and maintenance trade. After graduation, he joined the Ohio Army National Guard, where he served for 8 years honorably.
He retired after 26 years from National Lime & Stone. He also drove semitrucks, and was an amateur mechanic, racecar and motorcycle driver.
For hobbies, Sidney enjoyed NASCAR, bowling, playing cards, travelling, gambling, drinking bad beer, and talking to anyone who would listen.
Memorial services for Sidney Maples will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Pastor Larry Bertsch officiating.
Visitations will be held on Saturday 2 hours before service time, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
