Shirley J. Schrote, age 86, of Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021, in Bucyrus, Ohio.
Shirley was born on June 8, 1935, in Upper Sandusky to Jacob and Alma (Masters) Bassler. She married Richard L. Schrote on September 4, 1960, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, and he preceded her in death on December 28, 1998.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Susan Bloomfield of Bucyrus, two grandchildren: Jenny Bloomfield of Brunswick, Ohio, and Austin Bloomfield of Marion, Ohio, two great grandchildren: Aiden and Sophia, three nephews Jeff (Karen) Bassler, Steven (Ava) Bassler, and Jim Bassler all of Upper Sandusky.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, sister Marjorie (Raymond) Shenfield, brother Donald (Catherine) Bassler, nephews Raymond Shenfield Jr., Robin Shenfield, Michael Bassler, and companion Charles "Ed" Jury.
Shirley was a graduate of Upper Sandusky High School class of 1953, and was the May Day Queen in 1953. Shirley worked for 24 years at Ohio Bell Telephone until the office closed in 1978, and then worked for AT&T until her retirement in 1991.
Shirley was a member of Amvets Ladies Aux. Post 27 in Bucyrus, and was a past Aux President and Amvets 12th District Aux President. She was also a Wyandot County 4-H Advisor, served as a poll worker for the Wyandot County Board of Elections, she was also a member of Moose Lodge #669 in Bucyrus, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She loved to help at the Bratwurst Festival and spending time with family and friends. Shirley enjoyed traveling to Germany to visit her daughter, a cruise to Alaska, going to Las Vegas, and many trips to Atlantic City, NJ. Shirley also loved listening to Elvis Presley and Josh Turner, and was a big fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.
A funeral service for Shirley J. Schrote will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by Gene Sherman. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.
Visitations for Shirley will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the funeral home.
