Sharon Lea Shirey, age 79, of Upper Sandusky, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
Sharon was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, on August 31, 1946, to Dewitt and Mildred Voorheis. She was once married to Harold Ruhlen and then married Larry Shirey on April 4, 1981, and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2013.
Sharon is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Greg) Braun, James (Jennifer) Ruhlen, both of Upper Sandusky, step children: Rick (Christine) Shirey of Plymouth, Ohio, Kevin (Mardy) Shirey of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Bryan (Angie) Shirey of Springfield, Ohio, Debra (Steve) Stockmaster of Willard, and Peggy Stokke of Williamsburg, Virginia, 6 grandchildren John Braun, Jeff Roosa, Chelsey (Braun) Amory, Caylin Braun, Emily Ruhlen, and Erica Ruhlen, and 4 great grandchildren. Sharon is also survived by her brother Ron (Becky) Voorheis, 3 sisters, Irene (Carl) Walton, Phyllis Myers, and Diana (Steve) Hoover, and many nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jay Ruhlen, and brother-in-law Dick Myers.
Sharon graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1964. She went on to work at AO Smith/Westinghouse until she retired. In retirement, Sharon went on to work at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky as a STNA, Neumeister's Candy, and on the board of elections.
Sharon loved living out in the country where she could enjoy nature – watching the hummingbirds and deer in her back yard. She enjoyed doing puzzles with her daughter and granddaughters, going to see plays and musicals, and she loved going to her grandkid's sporting events and plays. Sharon also enjoyed going on motorcycles trips with her husband Larry.
Sharon was a former member of the Women of the Moose in Upper Sandusky.
A funeral service for Sharon Shirey will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by Pastor Barry Halter Jr. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitations for Sharon will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 23, at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.
