Sharon K Thiel

June 1, 1943 — October 11, 2024

Upper Sandusky

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Sharon Kay Thiel, was called home on Friday, October 11th, 2024 at her family farm  in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. She was 81 years young. Born in Marion, Ohio on June 1, 1943 to Gerald "Salty" and Evonda (Gelbaugh) Sheaffer.

Known to many as the "Dish Towel" lady due to her famous hand knit dish towels she made and passed out to anyone she felt needed a pick me up. It was her way of bringing a bright spot to a person's day and usually sparked many wonderful conversations. Her family will remember her for many reasons including her wonderful ability to cook, especially her delicious pies, her crazy antics, her generosity and feistiness, the many Christmas tree adventures with bells in hand and singing "Must be Santa," her mantra, "You have to be insane, to be sane," her faith, and love of her family. Her infamous group hugs will be incredibly missed.

She was deeply proud of her two grandchildren Keaton and Kenzie Cunningham as well as two step grandchildren Teahl (Qui) Nguyen and Tyler (Brianna) Rice and step-great grandson Deacon Rice, and her sister Janet Walcutt. Sharon lived vicariously through her grandchildren and their many adventures and travels across the ocean, their studies in college, plays and music concerts, and sporting activities. She was the fun filled crazy grandma that loved fiercely and had high expectations. She kept a calendar for each one and counted the days until everyone could all be together.

Sharon married Glen Thiel on August 21, 1965 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and he passed away on April 10, 2020. She raised two children, Michael (Jill) Thiel and Melissa (Chad) Cunningham on the family farm that she worked tirelessly for and was deeply proud of. She was the heart and soul of the family and many times was misunderstood. Sharon will be dearly missed by her family, grandchildren, her best friend Helen, her two beloved cats, and  those who truly took the time to know and appreciate her.

"Her thoughts were all so full of us, she could never forget! And so I think that where she is she must still be watching yet." We are quite sure she will continue to guide and watch over us through the rest of our lives. Love and prayers always and be safe Mom/Grandma.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky.

There will be a private celebration of life held at Lucas Batton Funeral Home in honor of Sharon on Wednesday, October 16th where she wanted all of us to share a laugh, a memory and raise a glass in celebration of her journey home followed by a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic School or St. Jude's Children's Hospital and can be sent to Lucas Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Avenue, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351
