Ruth A. Sigler, age 95, of Upper Sandusky, and formerly of rural
Harpster, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 3:05am
at the home of her daughter in Upper Sandusky.
Ruth was born on February 11, 1920 in Wyandot County, Ohio, to Frederick and Mina (Veith) Sammet, both of whom are deceased. She married Harley M. Sigler on February 8, 1947 in Upper Sandusky, and he passed away on December 27, 1994.
She is survived by her daughter, Roberta S. "Robbi" Sigler of Upper Sandusky, and a grandson, Samuel Mitchell Sigler. Along with 3 nieces, Lois (Paul) Rife, and Maxine Rife, both of Upper Sandusky, and Mary Jane Riley of Canton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Samuel F. Sigler, brother, Harold F. Sammet and a nephew, Homer F. Sammet, and nieces, Kathleen Sammet, Helen E. Sammet-Clinger.
Ruth was a homemaker, and farmer's wife, having worked alongside her husband, tending to the family farm. She also was skilled in floral design, and worked for many years at her parent's floral and greenhouse business.
She was a 1938 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and a 1941 graduate of Roberts School of Floriculture, Detroit, Michigan.
Ruth was a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, where she was active in WELCA, and the Ever Faithful Sunday School Class.
She was also a charter member of the Wyandot Garden Club, Epsilon Mothers Club, Alpha Tri-Sigma Sorority, Beta-Usando Literary Club, and the Ruth Naomi Bible Study.
Ruth along with Harley, were advisors for many years with 4-H in Wyandot County, member of the Farm Bureau Council, and she also served on the USHS Alumni Committee, and did many of the floral pieces for the banquets.
For hobbies she enjoyed working with her flowers, especially her peonies, bird watching, and going to bible study. She was a woman of great faith, and her love of God and family, was everything to her. She will be remembered for her wonderful spirit and special smile. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Ruth A. Sigler will be held at 11:00am Saturday, August 1, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Joe Trester officiating. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Friday, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and 1 hour before service time at the church on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wyandot County 4-H Youth Development, Hospice of Wyandot County, or Wyandot County Council on Aging, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
