Ruth M. Jevas, age 96, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 2:50pm in the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
She was born on June 19, 1919 in Mansfield, Ohio, to Charles and Genora (McMichael) Hoffhein, both of whom are deceased. She married Thomas Jevas on July 13, 1947 and he passed away on September 23, 1989.
Ruth is survived by a son, Thomas F. (Marsha) Jevas of Lewis Center, Ohio, and a daughter, Rena (Gerald) Spence of Winnsboro, South Carolina. 4 grandchildren, Rachel (Rick) Dahlen, Michael (Laura) Spence, Lauren (Michael) Dorsey, and Jessica Jevas. 4 great grandchildren, Jordan and Jason
Dahlen, Rachel Elizabeth Spence, and James Jevas, and a sister in law, Ponnie Kimmel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, Bill, David, Charles and Eddie Hoffhein and a sister, Dorothea Hoffhein.
She was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for Schultz Heating and Cooling in Upper Sandusky.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, and was a member of the former Progressive Class of the church.
Ruth attended officer training college with The Salvation Army and was commission as a Lieutenant. She along with her husband Thomas, started The Salvation Army Service Unit in Wyandot County. She also served on the board of
for 50 years. She was awarded the William Booth Award, which is the highest recognition with The Salvation Army for her service.
For hobbies, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, playing the piano, games, and traveling. Ruth also loved people, whether it was entertaining or visiting others, she also enjoyed the fellowship.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, June 23 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Steve Sturgeon, Chad Guined and Rev. Becky King officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Monday from 6pm to 8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and 1 hour before service time on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical or The Salvation Army and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
