Roy S. "Sam" Johnson, age 73, of rural Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Sunday
May 6, 2012 at 7:50AM at his home in Nevada after a courageous battle with Cancer.
Roy was born on June 11, 1938 in Crawford County, Ohio to Roy D. and Beulah (Cress) Johnson, both of whom are deceased. He married Ellen Markley on June 28, 1959 in the Nevada Lutheran Church and she survives.
Also surviving are four children: Kim (Kevin) Kirgis of Bloomville, Ohio, Jami (Don) Niederkohr of Upper Sandusky, Steven Johnson of Nevada and L. Ann (Troy) Johnson of Nevada. Six grandchildren Ryan (Heather) Ward, Rachael (Jordan) Bowersox, Aaron (Mindy) Niederkohr, Jordan (Pamela) Johnson, Devin Johnson and Aidan Johnson, along with four great grandchildren Madison and Mason Ward, Shelby Bowersox and Trey Johnson.
Roy is also survived by his twin brother Ray (Nancy) Johnson of Marion and two sisters, Beverly (Don) Clark of Monnett, Ohio, Connie (Ron) Fahl of Bucyrus and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Joan Burkey.
He retired from Swan Hose in Bucyrus after 51 years of employment having last worked in the receiving department.
Roy was a member of the Nevada Lutheran Church and of the following antique tractor clubs, the Crawford Antique Farm Association and the Indian Mill Antique Association, which Roy enjoyed collecting and restoring and showing his Allis Chalmers Tractors at various events.
He enjoyed throughout the years bowling, camping, fishing, bike riding, vegetable gardening, cutting wood and spending time with his family.
Funeral services for Roy S. Johnson will be held at 11:00am Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Chelsea Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada.
