Robert G. Zimmerman

Bucyrus, and formerly of Nevada

Robert G. Zimmerman, age 97, formerly of Nevada Ohio, and most recently of Bucyrus, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, at Altercare of Bucyrus.

Bob was born on April 5, 1927, in Bucyrus, Ohio to Arthur Ward and Pauline Fern (Bachtell) Zimmerman.  He then moved to Nevada where he attended and graduated Nevada High School 1945.  During his school years he was involved in many sports and working on the family farm. After highschool he served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947.  He then worked back home at Swan Rubber, then landing a job at General Electric where he worked as a maintenance machinist for 40 years until his retirement in 1987.

During his first years at General Electric he met and married Joan P. Hogan on June 24, 1951, who passed on June 7, 1987.  Bob and Joan had two sons, Michael  (Mariann) Zimmerman of Bucyrus, OH and Jeff (Susan) Zimmerman of Newland, N.C.

Bob was involved in many organizations and activities during his life including a former Boyscout, a member of the Nevada Luthern Church, Nevada American Legion, Moose Lodge and Nevada Fire/EMS Department, he sang in the barbershop group The Country Gentlemen.  He served the Village of Nevada as the Clerk and Treasurer for 14 years.  He also coached Little League Baseball.

He had many hobbies that he enjoyed including, Golfing, Fishing, Hunting, woodworking and doing puzzles. He was a member of the MGB Car Club with Martha his second wife and an avid Buckeye fan who bled scarlett and gray.

After retirement from General Electric he enjoyed mowing his yard and also mowing three of his neighbors yards, and traveling to Florida to spend winters with his son Jeff, Susan, Sam and many friends. He also enjoyed taking many trips to visit his sister and her family in Pennsylvania on Lewis Lake.

After his first wife Joan passed he met and married Martha (Pagnard) Gerber on April 21, 1990 who passed on May 30, 2016.  Martha and Bob enjoyed traveling and spending time with Martha's children, Phil (Sandy) Gerber, Dee (Sterling) Baldwin, Sharon (Alan) Irwin, Grandchildren and many friends and coworkers.

Bob is survived by his sons, Grandchildren Macy Zimmerman, Megan Zimmerman, Sam Zimmerman, Aaron (Sarah) Emberson and Grandson Atlas Emberson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives and Sister Ruth (Zimmerman) Bertolino.

Bob was truley one of a kind.  He was loving, compassionate, silly, forgiving, smiling and a helpful man of faith.  He was always in a good mood and he never knew a stranger.  He lived a blessed life.

A special thank you to the Nurses and staff at Orchard Park and Altercare for caring for him the past four years.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on 11:00 am, Saturday, May 17, 2025, with Pastor Steve Sturgeon officiating.
