Robert W. Turney, age 82, of Marion, Ohio passed away Sunday, February 7 at
4:40pm at the Community Healthcare Center in Marion Ohio.
Robert was born on February 13, 1927 in Harpster, Ohio to Walter and Frances (Smith) Turney Sr., both of whom are deceased. Robert married Wanda (Myers) on August 3, 1947 at the Grand Prairie Baptist Church and she passed away on February 2, 1998.
Surviving Robert is a son Mark (Arlene) Turney of Orville, Ohio, two daughters, Pamela (Donald) Stiffler of Prospect, Ohio, and Jill (Jeff) Lenke of Marion, seven grandchildren Tom (Brooke) Turney of Akron, Ohio, Joe (Jackie) Turney of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, David (Jessie) Turney of Jamestown, New York, Leslie Stiffler of Prospect, Ohio, Tyler Lenke of Marion, Alison Lenke of Marion, and Kaitlin Lenke of Marion, and two great grandchildren, Miles and Reed Turney.
Robert is also survived by one brother Walter Turney Jr. of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and three sisters Helen Jo Smalley of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Shirley McClain of Upper Sandusky, and Louise (Max) Walters of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a son Kevin J. Turney who died in infancy.
Robert graduated from Harpster High School in 1944. He then joined the US Navy and served in WWII. After serving, Robert farmed and in later years he worked at Quality Farm & Fleet in Marion.
Robert was a long time member of Grand Prairie Baptist where he served as a deacon, Trustee, Sunday school superintendent, and Sunday school teacher. Robert was a member of the Farm Bureau. For hobbies, Robert enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and the outdoors.
Funeral services for Robert W. Turney will be held at 11:00am, Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Brush Ridge with Rev. Kenneth Durtsche officiating. Burial will follow at the Grand Prairie Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and one hour prior to the service from 10:00am to 11:00 am at the Grand Prairie Baptist Church.
