Robert R. Spiegel, age 82, of Nevada, Ohio died on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 12:45pm at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Robert was born on September 28, 1926 in Crawford County, Ohio to Charles H. and Vera (Johns) Spiegel. He married Ruby June Barth on January 1, 1949 and she died on May 24, 1992. He then married Peggy (Conner) Mackling on September 28, 1992 and she survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons: Terry (Linda) Spiegel of Bucyrus; Donald (Patty) Spiegel of Upper Sandusky and Ronald (Rhonda) Spiegel of Nevada. 2 stepsons, Robert Mackling of Upper Sandusky and Jerry Lee (Jillian) Mackling of Dale City, Virginia, 2 step daughters, Lori (Bob) Camper of Carey and Kelly (Omar) Rizo of Bucyrus, along with 10 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Robert is also survived by 2 brothers, Vernon "Pete" (Norma) Spiegel of Nevada and Max (Anita) Spiegel of Sulphur Springs and 2 sisters, Joanna Snavely and Jean Reininger, both of Bucyrus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby June, 2 sons, Timothy and Curtis, daughter Barbara, and a granddaughter Ashley, six brothers: Jack, Wayne, Ralph Dwight, Glenn, Clarence, and Gary Spiegel, and one sister: Mae Dolly Smith
Robert had worked for Ohio Crane in Bucyrus for over 30 years and then worked in maintenance at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky. He was a member for over 50 years of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II and the Korean War as a corporal.
Robert was a Cub Scout leader for over 20 years and also served on the village council in Nevada. For hobbies, he enjoyed clowning as his character "Bubbin the Clown" at church gatherings
and parties. Robert also liked to hunt, fish, hunt mushrooms and arrowheads, collecting clown figurines, gardening and spending time with his family.
Funeral services for Robert R. Spiegel will be held at 11:00am Friday, May 1, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Martin Stiffler officiating. Burial will be at Nevada Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted.
Visitations will be on Thursday, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada.
