Robert E. (Bob) McCombs

Robert was born in Wyandot County, Ohio, to Edward E. and Ruth N. (Hite) McCombs on November 9, 1922. He then married Dorothy J. (Tattle) McCombs and they were married for 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Judith A. McCombs and a son Michael L. McCombs both of Palm Harbor, FL, granddaughters Mandy and Mindy McCombs of Denver, CO a grandson, Sgt. Michael B. McCombs stationed in Germany, one great-granddaughter Makenzi McCombs, Two brothers, Earl E. McCombs Galion, OH and Richard L. McCombs, Upper Sandusky, OH.

He was a 1941 graduate of Harpster High School where he lettered in basketball, baseball, and track. His lifelong interest in sports included coaching Pee Wee, Pony League and legion baseball, forming and coaching two time champion track team at Iberia, Ohio, coached Ft. Myers, FL. KofC softball team to two championship seasons. He was a WWII Army Veteran with the 37th infantry division of Ohio in the Northern Solomon Islands and the Phillipean Liberation Campaigns. He attended Ohio Northern University He then worked 21 years for the Erie-Lackawana railroad then retired and moved to Ft. Myers Beach, FL where he entered into hotel management. He then retired in 1988 and moved to Palm Harbor, FL and then finally in 2003 he moved to Bayview Gardens Retirement Community.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Grand Prairie Cemetery, Brush Ridge on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11:00am with Rev. Charles Steward officiating. Lucas-Batton Funeral Home will be in charge of services.
