Robert H. M. Maclaren

Robert H. M. Maclaren, age 92, formerly of Harpster, Ohio died on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 1:50 PM at the Main Campus of the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Robert was born on April 9, 1916 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to Archibald D. and Margaret J. (Murray) Maclaren, both of whom are deceased. He married Dorothy Willis on November 15, 1942, in Salem, New Hampshire, and she passed away in September of 2002.

Robert is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Jean I. (Mark) Tennant of Homer Alaska, and Wenda (William) Quilter of Troy, Ohio. Grandchildren, Gregory West, Erin Howard, Amanda Kashevarof, Johanna Tennant and Abigail Tennant and great grandchildren, Sage Knight, Willow Knight , Lily Howard and Ocean Tennant.

Also surviving is a brother, Archibald Maclaren of Andover, Massachusetts, a sister, Isabelle W. Gorrie of Curtis, Michigan.

Robert worked with the Wholesale Poultry and Egg Business for 30 years. After his retirement, he worked part time with Eckleberry Poultry in Bucyrus.

He was a member of the Calvary Bible Baptist Church in Marion and was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army in Greenland and Texas as a 1st Lt.

Robert served the Village of Harpster as mayor for 6 terms and as a council member for 4 terms. He also was committeeman for the Republican Party in Wyandot County.

For hobbies, Robert enjoyed photography, reading, gardening, travel and working in his wood shop. He often expressed his love for his wife, daughters and grandchildren by making furniture and other items for them in his shop.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, May 9, at Little Sandusky Cemetery.
