Robert E. "Gene" Lucas

June 29, 1925 — March 19, 2010

Robert E. "Gene" Lucas, age 84, of Frostproof, Florida and formerly
of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010 at his home.

Gene was born on June 29, 1925 in Morral, Ohio, to George M. and Dorothy O. (Fehl) Lucas, both of whom are deceased. He married Lois Armbruster on September 1, 1948 in Upper Sandusky and she survives.

Surviving are his children, Michael E. (Judy) Lucas of Harpster, Ohio, Jon P. Lucas of Upper Sandusky, and Douglas G. Lucas of Upper Sandusky and a daughter Patricia A. (Mick) Kolodge of Clarkston, Michigan. Along with 7 grandchildren, Erin Iles, Courtney Lucas, Corrine Broyles, Kate Lucas, Angela Bigler, Samantha Kolodge, Jesse Lucas and 11 great grandchildren.

Gene is also survived by a sister Mary Alice Robey of Upper Sandusky and
a brother Ted (Josette) Lucas of Upper Sandusky and sister in law Willene Lucas in Westerville, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a brother John R. "Dick" Lucas.

Gene was a retired funeral director with Lucas Funeral Homes. He had been
a licensed director and embalmer since 1951 and had served at all locations, and also as the resident manager of the funeral homes in Morral and then in Nevada.

Gene graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1943 and the Cleveland College of Mortuary Science in 1949. After high school, Gene served his country in the Navy during WWII from 1943 -1946 and after mortuary school he was called back into the service during the Korean War
from 1951 to 1952.

Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Frostproof and had attended John Stewart U.M.C. in Upper Sandusky. He was life member of both the Amvets Post #777 and VFW Post #2842 in Upper Sandusky and former member of the American Legion Post #462 in Nevada. He was a member of the Frostproof Lions Club and was a charter and former member
of the Upper Sandusky Lions Club.

Gene was also a 50 year member of the following Masonic Orders, Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM, McCutchen Chapter #96 RAM, Upper Sandusky Council # 98 RSM, Marion Commandery #36, Aladdin Temple of the Shrine in Columbus and former 50 year member of the OES #366 in Upper Sandusky. . He also served on board and past president of the American Heart Association and The American Cancer Society.

For hobbies Gene enjoyed watching sports, playing cribbage, woodworking, playing cards and western square dancing.

Funeral Services for Robert E. Lucas will be held at 11:00am Thursday, March 25, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating. Burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery, where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.

Visitations will be held Wednesday, March 24, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with a Masonic Memorial Service to be held at 8:00pm on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heart Support Group in Upper Sandusky or the First United Methodist Church in Frostproof, Florida and
